Ready to fly

Field notes from the airport

It’s not every day I find myself with extra time at the airport and my reflex camera in hand—so when the opportunity arose, I couldn’t help but start clicking away.

I’ve always liked being at airports, even when I have to stay longer than expected. They’re places of passage, where most of us are held for a while—waiting, lingering, adjusting. They invite you to sit and pause. To wander aimlessly past gates, simply because there’s still too much time before boarding. Or sometimes, to rush—toward the right gate, the changed gate… or to chase one you’ll never quite reach in time, at least not that day.

Airports make me happy. They’re where anticipation begins to build. And honestly, the idea of being among the clouds still feels like something unreal—an experience worth seeking out.

I know not everyone feels the same. Some are nervous. Others are flying for reasons far from joyful. But I try to wear a smile as part of my flying outfit.

It’s strange how, even in a place of such constant movement and noise, you can still stumble upon little refuges of quiet.

I hope I’ll keep feeling this way for many, many flights to come.

And here is a short bonus, from the phone camera roll.
